There are a plethora of dental toothpastes, toothbrushes, and oral health care items that help us to cleanse and protect our teeth. Yet, statistics do not lie.
A great number of Americans will be affected negatively by dental problems, due to oral neglect.
To avoid being a statistic, below are some of the ways you can do so.
The 9-month Toothbrush
Did you know that most Americans hold on to a toothbrush for approximately 9 months before replacing it? Typically, the dentist recommends a 2-month toothbrush replacement rate, but about 91% of Americans wait much longer than that.
Fast Tip: As soon as the bristles on a toothbrush begin to wear down, they become significantly less effective. On average weak bristles are at minimal 1/3 less effective than new ones. So, for better hygiene, replace that toothbrush more often.
The 30-Second Rule
You’ve probably heard of the 5-second rule (we do not endorse it), but have you ever heard of the 30-second rule? Soda, sports drinks, and some juices only require 30 seconds to damage the enamel of teeth.
Fast Tip: Sipping water can lead to stronger teeth if you avoid sodas and sports drinks as well. Keeping a water bottle for work school or during workouts can help you to stay on the right track. If you like juice, try eating fruit instead.
Reducing Heart Disease
You can actively reduce your risk of heart disease by 70% by brushing at least two times every day and flossing once per day. Once gum disease occurs, it begins to induce inflammation throughout your body.
Fast Tip: For a couple of weeks, schedule out time to brush your teeth after breakfast and lunch. If you work or go to school, pack a travel-sized toothbrush and toothpaste and make your way to the bathroom. After you form a habit of doing so, you will be amazed at how easy it will be to brush your teeth after dinner.
About 36% of Americans did not see a dentist at all last year, although doing so is extremely important to maintaining good oral health. Ivy Rose Family Dentistry offers considerate, professional dental services to residents in Mansfield and Arlington.
