Root Canals

No longer do people shudder when they hear the words “root canal.” At IvyRose Family Dentistry, we specialize in performing painless root canals and have techniques to reduce anxiety.  Root canals are common procedures with an excellent success rate and help to avoid extractions.  Root canals also eliminate pain caused by an infection or nerve exposure.  Typically, we perform a comprehensive dental exam before we recommend root canals.  If you are experiencing tooth pain or sensitivity, come into our dental office in Mansfield, Texas.

What Is a Root Canal?

During a root canal procedure your tooth is numbed and the decay is removed. The diseased nerve is accessed, infection removed, and your canals are cleaned and shaped. We then fill up the canal with a filling material and seal the pulp chamber with a build up or additional filling material.

What To Expect

The procedure is completed during one office visit and here is what you can expect:

  • We will numb the area to increase your comfort during the procedure.
  • A small opening is created to gain access to the pulp of the tooth much like a filling.
  • The infected pulp is removed, the canals of the tooth are cleaned, and a special filler solution is placed inside the tooth.
  • A temporary crown is placed on the tooth.
  • If there was a large infection present, we may prescribe antibiotics.

After you receive a root canal, you can expect the tooth to have an excellent prognosis.  As with any dental procedure, daily care and good oral habits will increase the lifespan of the dental work.  Root canals are an effective treatment to quickly reduce pain, restore the functionality of a tooth (when coupled with a crown), and increase oral health.

The dental team at Ivy Rose Family Dentistry works hard to provide high quality service during every procedure including root canals.  Once you arrive at our office, we will walk you through the entire process and set your mind at ease.
