TMJ

The temporomandibular joint (TMJ) is a highly flexible joint. It allows the jaw to close, open, shift forward, backward, to either side and a combination of several movements. The TMJ is a connective point to numerous facial, oral, and neck tissues, muscles, and ligaments.  Hence, when a problem exists in your TMJ, many related parts can experience pain and discomfort. If you a have a temporomandibular joint disorder (TMD) or are having unexplained pains in your jaw, head or neck muscles give Ivy Rose Family Dentistry a visit.  Our Mansfield, Texas office handle TMDs of all types.

Twice as many women than men, particularly those women of childbearing age, experience TMD. It is the most common non-dental related chronic facial ache and pain. Several causes of TMD have been identified, such as jaw injuries or dislocations, an improper bite, and arthritis. Prolonged stress can also play a role in TMD.

Diagnosing TMD and TMJ

Proper diagnosis is a significant step in addressing your TMD. In fact, many patients that have not been diagnosed are confused about their situation.  We help patients of all ages to understand the cause and effect of their TMD by performing a comprehensive examination of their jaw and face.

During the exam, we may make a cast of your teeth or attain specialized TM joint x-rays. Sometimes it is necessary to review your complete medical history, to identify the cause and to recommend the best treatment. If you believe you could be suffering from TMD, call Ivy Rose Family Dentistry to schedule an appointment for an examination.
